project brief
The approach to This European style 9,115 square foot residence, magnificently designed by Jack Kemper, starts with a sweeping circular driveway featuring a 4’ stone retaining wall end to end. The intent of the design was to take advantage of the magnificent panoramic views of the Farmington Valley from atop Avon Mountain.
This state-of-the-art home was built with the latest technology available. Geothermal heating and cooling in each of the 4 zones, all of the lighting, security system and CCTV can be controlled in the home from several IPADS recessed in the walls or remotely from a mobile phone. A steam humidifcation system has been included as well as a 45Kw generator that can run the entire home in case of a power outage.
exterior
The limestone and stucco exterior with copper gutters gives a sense of age and permanence. An open air pavilion and loggia is adjacent to the pool. The loggia features a fireplace, full bath and oversized chandelier. The heated pool is complete with fountains on the north / south perimeters and an electric, retractable solar cover. A balcony with deck off of the master suite and several patios allow for intimacy while enjoying outdoor living.
interior
Although large, the residence is designed to feel comfortable for the daily life of a young growing family. Design cues such as coffered ceilings, intimate lighting and stunning architectural detail contribute to this feel.
The linear design organizes the interior spaces along a strong North / South axis. The most used rooms face the western view. The 9’ ceilings keep the scale intimate yet roomy. Sunsets can be viewed from nearly every room in the home.
